The Hon. Michael Danby MP
Parliamentary Secretary for the Arts
Federal Member for Melbourne Ports

Michael Danby, federal Labor Member for Melbourne Ports, has announced that extra voting times will be available in the electorate for the period before the 14 September federal election, which falls on Yom Kippur, a Jewish religious holiday.

“When the election date was announced, I immediately promised that I would secure extra opportunities for people in Melbourne Ports to vote before election day, when many Jewish residents will be unable to vote,” Danby said. “I’m pleased to announce that I have fulfilled that promise.”

My Danby said that two new pre-polling locations would be available in Melbourne Ports.

“The first will be the Caulfield Early Voting Centre, in the Presbyterian church hall on the corner of Neerim and Bambra Roads, Caulfield. This centre will be open from 27 August to 13 September, including in the evenings until 7pm from 9 to 12 September. (See details in attached leaflet.)

“The second will a special voting day at the Caulfield Pavilion, in Caulfield Park off Balaclava Rd, on Sunday 8 September from 10am to 4pm. I will be there all day to meet voters and discuss any issues they may have.”

In addition, Mr Danby said, the existing East St Kilda Early Voting Centre will operate at the Betty Day Centre, Argyle St, East St Kilda, from 27 August to 13 September. It will also be possible to vote early at the AEC office at Casselden Place in the city. It is also possible to vote by post, and Mr Danby’s office is available to give advice on postal voting.

“I’m committed to making sure that every Melbourne Ports resident, regardless of their religion, is able to exercise their democratic right and vote at the federal election,” Mr Danby said. “I’ve been working over several months with the Australian Electoral Commission to secure these extra polling places.”

“Now that has been achieved. I urge every Melbourne Ports voter to come and meet me at pre-polling and take part in our great democracy.”
